A Stern lesson in History

I was browsing the shelf of the local newsagent yesterday and came
upon this striking cover from Stern magazine. Stern is a German news
and lifestyle magazine with a large distribution and influence. The
cover shows an average middle class German having money taken from him
and asks the question how much longer can the European Union be
bankrolled by Germany.
There is no question that Germany plays a central role in Europe. It
is the industrial heart of the EU the question is more why have the
other nations not risen to at least parity. Europe is now a family and
as such should function as one. All members need to contribute to the
family funds. An agreed role and contribution that alleviates the
burden from one member supporting the others.
History teaches those who refuse to learn the lessons of the past are
doomed to repeat them. Isolating and burdening one nation has proven
to be socially and economically fatal through out Europe's history.
I for one hope that the European experiment continues into a bright
future. Where Germany is supported by partners rather than supporting
partners.
